Standard rear calipers

Recommended Posts

I went to change my rear discs and pads on an 89 but found that i couldn't get the calliper back over the new pads, turns out i was using the thicker ones so i got the 15mm thick pads which are the correct ones, but still can't get the calliper over.

I'm not one for buying fancy tools for simple jobs, so i've always used a massive G clamp to wind back the pistons which has worked a treat over the years, but these callipers wont budge any further! Are these callipers knackered or do i NEED the proper wind back tool to get them back far enough?

if you're tight like me, yu can make one. Used a box spanner and cut back, leaving two dimples - was pure luck I had the correct diameter. You've got to press as you wind back.

The windback tool does the job for you and is much easier - looks a bit like the one below; ask in the shop. If its really stiff, you might suspect a seal.
