Budgetting for major service

Having just blown a load of cash on a family holiday and trying to forget about three family birthdays and Christmas coming soon, I need to start budgetting for the important things in life - the cost of a major service for the corrado.

 

The car in question is a 1993 VR6 with 72k miles on the clock and very little history. It appears for the last 7 years the car was used regularly but with low annual milage (5k a year?) as the daily run around for a lady and the servicing mainly done by Home Tune. None of the "big ticket" items seem to have been done and although there is no sign of any problems I'm wondering what I should have done at the next service.

 

So experts, can you give me an idea of what and roughly how much? Also any recommendations of somewhere to take it that knows what they are doing?

Where abouts are you based?

 

If you get all the major stuff done - oil, coolant, brake fluid, plugs, fuel filter, air filter, etc all changed and get the car a thorough going over, I can't imagine that'd set you back any more than about £300 at a decent specialist. They could then advise on what bits look a bit duff (bushes, brakes, whatever) and advise you further on pricing :)

With the lack of past history, are you not tempted to give most of the items a go yourself? Apart from bleeding the brakes which can be a bit tricky first time around, the routine service items are pretty easy to sort yourself with a couple of spanners and a nice weekend.

I am in Surrey near Epsom, so anywhere in the Guildford, Croydon, Reigate type areas who know what they are doing - any reccomendations gratefully recieved.

 

I would have a go myself is I wasn't a complete :censored: with things mechanical!

:lol: nope but lost count how many times i have serviced my vr however i can also vag com it to check for other probs

What part number is that? they do a load - half of which are "for track use". Also if seen a few posts where people get shafted on insurance for having an induction kit or is this actually bo11ocks?
