VR6 with no MAF question

Recommended Posts

I've recently acquired a 3rd VR6 to the fold, on removing the ridiculous induction kit (one of those ones with the spinning blades) I noticed that the car had no MAF. Well the thing is the car idles ok...ish, drives ok...ish and apart from the economy being lower than I'd expect has no real ill effects. I drove it 200+ miles back after buying it.

The wierd thing is the plug had been cut off and the wires taped back to the loom. Does anyone have any ideas why someone would do this, or is it just pure incompetence? I have a new MAF and plug ready to go on now but was just wondering if it might have been done for a reason. Its quite bizarre really! I wouldn't have expected it to even run or at least idle properly tbh.

Any thoughts?

from what i've heard and experienced, the ECU can adapt to work without the MAF. presumably this is whats happened, i found mine worked alot better when i sorted the MAF out!
