how is a.c. triggered in an early style corrado?

Hi, I'm doing a bit of research on this, and I'd like to know how the early style heater controls trigger the a.c. system. I imagine it's got a wire + switch in the slider controls but I'd like to make sure of it.

 

edit: I'd also like to know how do the heater controls activate the 1st and 2nd radiator fan stage :)

 

does anyone know it?

 

a picture of the heater controls out of the dash would be helpful, as I don't have the dasho out at the moment :lol:

just to make things clear...

 

 

The passat b3 climatronic main unit (LCD screen) has 3 plugs. the wire number 2 for the 3rd plug says "Air Conditioning Ready". I'd need to know if it means that the a.c. compressor will be turned on when this wire has +12v.

 

I'd also need to know how do the corrado early style (slider) heater controls actuates on the a.c. compressor.

 

 

It might be only needed to bridge 3/2 wire from the climatronic to the wire of the early heater controls... or not

 

 

does anyone have the early heater controls at home to please have a look? I have them in the dash in the car at the moment...

I have a Diavia system on a 92 VR6 if that's any good ?

 

If it is then the air con system has two buttons on the dash. One (yellow) re-circulates the air and cuts of external air supply. The other (blue) activates the air con.

The cold air is simply fed into the existing air channels.

 

The sliders don't affect the air con at all. They only adjust direction and hot/cold adjustment.

 

I'd send you an image but the cars gone in for some work and won't be back for a few weeks.

I've seen them sliders before on US spec cars. Does it say anything in the Bentley manual ?

 

Sorry but I can't help with the mechanics of operation. I would only imagine that the slider triggers the air con at some point.

Air Con was a dealer fit option, not factory and I believe it's the Diavia system.

 

The air con is activated by the dash switches described above.

yes but my corrado was assembled in Spain and I don't have these buttons, thus I think mine was factory fitted...

Following on from our many PMs about this!

 

The biggest problem you have trying to get info on here is that we didn't get factory fitted a/c in Britain so it's highly unlikely you're going to find somebody with this option in a Corrado, as A1 VR6 says our Diavia systems were installed by the dealers before delivery of the cars and were operated by two push buttons. You'd be more likely to get help regarding the slider controls from people that have Golfs, Jettas, Passats etc of a similar age but with factory fit a/c.

 

The first stage of the fan should be activated by the start of the air con/climatronic (if you install it) or the first stage of coolant temperature switch F18, the second stage should be switched by the second stage of F18.

 

There should be no need to install a later VR6 fan controller as it would only overcomplicate things.

 

From what you described earlier you already have a problem with the operation of the fan, get to the bottom of that first before starting on the next problem.....it sounds like it may be a relay issue???

From what I have read over the years, UK cars had to be retro fitted with the Diavia system as it was non standard equipment (i would imagine to keep the retail cost of the car down). Where as the US and Euro cars had the system fitted from the factory ?

 

I've never seen my system on another Corrado (Early interior) as it's always the later cars with the rotary dials with air con I've seen.

 

Try VW Vortex as this system in consistent with the US ?

 

PS: I would be keen to hear how this turns out. Keep me posted.

 

NB: I've also seen the same set up on a late MK2 golf (rare US spec mind)

as a bit of update, I found this in clubgti:

1 - red/yel- fresh air motor & resistor

2 - red/wht- radiator fan control module pin 3, thermal switch pin 2 and radiator fan pin 3

3 - red/wht- battery

4 - red/yel- A/C pres switch pin 4

5 - blu/red- motronic engine control module pin 39, A/C press switch pin 2 & clutch relay

6 - yel/red- fresh air switch pin 4

All this mental problem comes because a guy dropped a passat climatronic into his toledo 1L which is similar to corrado late-style heater controls and wirings, and he said he had to re-wire a.c. compressor and radiator fans, as well as a.c. pressure switch etc...

 

 

What I'd like to know is, and sorry TONEDEF for all PM's I've sent to you (which I have read trillions of times... but I have a mental mess ATM :lol: ), .... is if the climatronic would only be a question of swapping only:

 

1. heater box

2. lcd display and wirings from heater box to lcd display and from lcd display to fusebox

 

aaaaaaaaand keep my existing a.c. wirings that connect a.c. pressure switches with ¿what do they connect to?

 

aaaaaaaaand keep the radiator fan wirings as well ?????

the question comes because if I remove the corrado a.c. and heater box.... how should I tell the fusebox that a.c. clutch and radiator fan has to kick in when I select cold air from the climatronic? will it be a matter of only plugging into the fusebox the climatronic wirings.. and everything will keep working fine (a.c. and rad fan)?

No. I have (as do others) an early RHD G60 with A/C fitted. Looking at the quality of the install (it's similar to the quality of VR6 ones I've seen) I'd say it was dealer fitted. It has two push buttons to control the A/C. Just don't ask me how it works :)

Course I will but from memory the sliders are just standard and the two buttons occupy a switch where the switch blank is found, under the fogs and HRW. I'm sure I've seen the same switch/setup in the Golf MK2 Haynes manual.

despite uk early style corrados with aircon have a switch for this, I think it would be useful if I posted the way a.c. is triggered in slider controls controlled ( :nuts: ) a.c.

 

the slider controls have a plug for the fan speed selector, and another plug for the a.c., fan, and ignition +12v (it's got 3 wires). :wink:

I'm from Spain and shipping would cost $$$, but I don't have diavia aircon anyway, sorry, I have oem AC with built-in-switch slider controls :)
