James_tulley 0 Posted February 23, 2010 I have a 1.8 16v rado. I was thinking of getting 4 branch manifold, stainless steel exhaust and getting the throttle body gas flowed. Question is will this make a noticable difference? Where's a good place to go for gas flowing in the south? West Sussex area any info of cheap good mods would be much appreciated. aide 0 Posted February 24, 2010 if i was doing normally aspirated 16v performance gains i'd do the following; - general tune up, fuel and spark delivery and timing - k&n panel filter - weber (single bigger butterfly) throttle body - exhaust as inlet mod, or maybe abf or piper cams - warm up regulator (wur) mod - four branch manifold - 2ltr bottom end - gasflowed, or even ported head - 50mm manifold there's plus/ minuses to the above, some you'll lose low rpm torque but gain top end power, i dont think you'll find gains that noticeable from what you're proposing tbh try the search with any of above, been covered lots, davidwort and others on here have well sorted valvers - worth keeping an eye out
mikkijayne 0 Posted February 24, 2010 The 4-branch manifold has a couple of effects. Number one is to make it louder, as you lose the first silencer. With a full stainless system it can be very loud indeed - mine with a 4-branch and Scorpion system sounded like a spitfire :? Make sure the exhaust has at least as many boxes as the original to keep it to a tolerable volume. Effect two is to put a big spike in the powerband at 4K. It felt like it lost torque at lower speeds, so was pretty docile until 4K when it went nuts as the cams woke up. The 50mm inlet manifold I believe has a similar effect of lifting the powerband.
