new waterpump

bought a new 16v waterpump, it was a febi bilstien, but it came witha platic impellor. good or bad? or dont it really matter too much

should be fine - they are only good for about 10 years max. best then to swap them for another new one.

 

i treat vw waterpumps like timing belts and swap em regardless of amount of use, it tends to be the achilees (?) heal of them.

Genuine ones are plastic so that's fine but it's the casing that can cause issues - especially on a 16V

 

If it's not an original casting then they can sometimes press on the cambelt cover so take care when fitting, we spent ages trying to get a Febi one to fit a mates 9A ok after filling the casting down and a week later it leaked like mad so we swapped for genuine anyway.
