Is there any "opening" in the gearbox - or can I blast it?

Want to clean up my gearbox while it's out, and was thinking of sandblasting it - is there any dangers in doing this? (any "air openings" or similar)?.

 

Also anyone painted theyr gearbox?.

 

It's from a VR6.

no way id sandblast one ...it gets in anywhere

 

you can probably get away with power washing and change the gear oil afterwards

yea, was a bit afraid of that - the oil will be changed afterwards.....

 

Was thinking of painting it.........I'l see what I come up with :)

alloy wheel cleaners often bring up the surface ...along with a wirebrush

 

if you paint it use etch primer first
