knocking coming from offside front wheel, VR6

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've got a new problem with my VR6 :D

If I'm travelling at low speeds over a bumpy road I get a clonking type noise from the drivers side wheel/ suspension assembly.

It has gotten worse over the past few weeks and is now starting to really annoy me!

Any ideas what it could be?

The car has been lowered on Weitec GTs and I fitted new OE front topmounts whilst I was there. I'm running 17" wheels and the camber/tracking has not yet been adjusted.

Any help/advice welcommed!

Cheers.

Have you checked the funny nut that goes between the top of the suspension and the top mount is done up properly.

Mine was loose after new top mounts and was knocking away

sounds like it could be the wheel bearing.

if not i'd be lookin at bottom arm, even the strut itself might need investigating, drop links, track rod ends? tryin to think what else?

but id start with jackin it up and wigglin the wheel.

I forgot to say I've had both wheel bearings replaced and I can't feel any play when I give the wheel a good rocking.

I'll look into the suspension top nut tomorrow and see what its like...

Could be the roll bar linkage being broken had exactly the same symptoms on my vr on both sides when this happened it gets worse when turning, bugger is it jabs into the cv boot making a mess of it.

This is what it was, after a suspension stripdown and rebuild the noise has thankfully gone!

Thanks everyone :D
