frankos76 0 Posted May 14, 2010 Hi chaps, i recently fitted new koni coilovers on my vr6 cos i had a broken spring on my spax strut. When tightening the nut on the bearing on the front strut to torque it up i noticed the spring bending so one side of the spring was very close to the thread on the strut. I torqued it to 75NM which it said to in the manual, didn`t seem overtight. Thought it might sort itself out cos they wear in over 200 miles, so ive heard but after driving two days ive noticed it has rub on the thread. Is this a badly manufactured spring or what? The other three are fine and the strut, top mount, bearing, top plate all are straight, can`t really get them wrong can u? Appreciate any help :confused4:
Serial 0 Posted May 14, 2010 I had exactly the same problem when my Koni's were fitted a couple of years ago, the spring isn't manufactured correctly and sits at an angle on the plate, causing it to compress unevenly and rub against the body of the shock. Mine were fitted by Stealth and they were very helpful in getting a replacement unit from the manufacturer -- it sounds like you might have to do the same thing.
