heater matrix without removing the dash

i heard it was possible to change the heater matrix without removing the dash, done it with a little swearing so all good. Took it for a spin and its kind of blowing out hot air but i'm wondering if there's something i missed. Any ideas guys would be much loved oh and its a 1.8 16v 1989 cheers
