James_tulley 0 Posted September 18, 2010 I have searched and it seems to be either waterpump or thermostat. I'm going to change them both. Why would it be these though? And where's best to get these?
skinnyman9000 0 Posted September 19, 2010 From what i understand if the bottom coolant pipe remains cold then the thermostat isnt opening, and therefore isnt allowing water to pass through the radiator. The thermo should open at around 87deg i believe. VW main dealer would be the best place for replacement parts
James_tulley 0 Posted September 19, 2010 So shal I change just the thermostat?
Critical_Mass 10 Posted September 19, 2010 Yup and may also be worth changing the housing as this can become brittle with age. Also maybe worth changing the coolant sensor whilst you're doing the housing and stat. Dont forget to test the new thermostat before fitting just to save you hassle of removing it again if it is fault (doubtful it will be but always check).
