A5 VRX 0 Posted November 21, 2010 Girlfriends Polo 6n is stuggling to start (1.4, 98 S) all it does is click a few times like the relays ticking away then the instrument panel makes a whirring sound? Any ideas, new battery time? It will start after a few tries of nothing then fires up fine? ta Adam
VR6 South 0 Posted November 21, 2010 Sounds like the battery to me. Try a battery from another car just to make sure :)
jonrocks88 0 Posted November 21, 2010 sounds like the battery, If you live near a halfrauds they do a free battery check where they test your alternator too.
Purple Tom 0 Posted November 21, 2010 I disagree, if it won't turn at all and just clicks, then after a few goes turns over absolutely fine then its unlikely to be the battery, otherwise it would continuously get worse. Have a look at all of the battery connections, including the earths and the connections to the starter, and also might be worth checking the ignition switch as well... Obviously it could be the battery, but going by the symptoms you've described it doesn't sound like it :) Tom
