diarmaid16 1 Posted January 16, 2011 Hey guys. Can anyone tell me what it would cost parts-wise for a g60 engine rebuild? Thanks
Richardshoes 0 Posted January 17, 2011 Hi, That's a difficult question. I managed to buy a G60 engine with loom, ecu, transmission, driveshafts, charger.. basically the lot for £400 from a breakers. I then proceeded to strip the unit down, with the view of a re-build. The bores had recently been opened up to 81.5mm and the geometry was still good, so I just cleaned the block down, and honed the bores. Checked for hairline cracks etc.. bottom end good to go. New rings, new jounral bearings for crank, new fasteners, new oil jets, new conrod bearings, new seals, refurbed and polished cylinder head bought from ebay for £100. new water pump, dizzy, timing belt stuff.....that''s as far as I have got. Cost so far ~ £1k I am pretty confident of getting it in and running for no more than £1500 Cheers.
boost monkey 0 Posted January 17, 2011 I know that just for a gasket set including oil seals etc etc from VW is about £200 ish, last time I checked (couple of years ago).

diarmaid16 1 Posted February 2, 2011 So would I be better off looking to buy an engine instead of rebuild?
