quicky1980 0 Posted January 23, 2011 Hi Took the car out for a jolly today only to come home and find that the car starting to misbehave. I thought it may be misfiring so popped the bonnet and unplugged each spark pug in turn. Cylinder three made no difference to the engine so presumed this could be the culprit and so moved the coil from that cylinder to number 1. Again popped off each spark plug feed and now only cylinder one seemed to make a difference. So my assumption is the cylinder coil pack has had it. I cant get a replacement until at least tomorrow which causes a big problem as I have to drive to work in the morning. Any one driven a 6 cylinder corrado on 5 cylinders, or any engine with a none functioning cylinder? can it be done or should i find another way into work tomorrow? 16VG60 1 Posted January 23, 2011 Not recommended to drive with coil pack failure due to emissions system damage from excessive unburnt fuel being present. This unburnt fuel will cause problems with lambda related fueling adjustment, catalytic converters, and bore/ lubrication system contamination. I strongly recommend you don't drive car in this state, a coil pack will cost circa £30, the possible side effects could cost you considrably more! Cheers, I don't have the cat, but the r32 lambda's are frigging expensive so wouldn't want to damage those. Damn, will have to find a lift tomorrow then. 16VG60 1 Posted January 23, 2011 Good decision fella, should be straight forward enough to source a replacement tommorrow. Shame you don't live down south near me as I keep these on the shelf, allong with most other coil packs, they are allmost a daily request item. The only other point to consider is that it is typical that once one coil has failed the others will follow. Most of my customers now opt to have the set changed. Yeah I've heard they tend to fail soon after each other. Bit surprised on this failing as the engine has only done 20k! Will try and get all six tomorrow just in case.
