late vr6 head gasket on early vr6

Recommended Posts

i'm currently taking my engine apart to rebuild the head and do a few mods..... i''ve read on a thread that putting a head gasket from a mk4 12v vr6 on the ealier corrado vr6 engine increases compression slightly giving a bit more power.

has anyone else come across this or done it on their car??

i dont know if this just applies to AAA vr's or is to do with american vr's as it was a US thread i read i think.

the aaa's were all 2.8 iirc.

all vr6 corrado's in the uk are 2.9

there are 3 types of head gasket I think, but only differ in thickness.

the older the car, the thicker it needs to be to take up slack, unless the block and head are reskimmed.

correct me if I'm wrong tho, but this was the case when I did mine

by slack I mean any warping in the head or block, without reskimming

mine was a little different cos I had the block and head surfaces polished flat, seeing as the engine was out and being rebored

mine was normal gasket

at a guess if yours is towards the 150k mark, use the thickest, which I think has 3 holes. they are graded by the holes.

If you look at the one thats on, even with the head on, you can see a tab, front right I think that has the part number and the hole or holes in it

Hope it helps
