Pinking

Hi, my car (Corrado g60) has developed pinking over the last two weeks.

I have a new blue coolant temp sensor and it's giving the correct output through the temp range.

There is no fault in the wiring between the ecu and the blue coolant temp sensor

I set the ignition timing to 6deg btdc as per the bentley manual

I cannot get a stable advance reading when I re-connect the blue coolant temp sensor. The manual states the timing should advance by 20-30deg.... Using the Gunson advance timing strobe, I try this and the strobe just flashes intermittently, so it's not flashing every time the spark plug fires. And I have no idea what the ignition advance actually is.

The car is pinking badly at idle and part throttle.

The vac hose to the ecu is fine, with no leaks. the co pot is set at 550ohms.

The car was running fine with no pinking just a few weeks ago, so clearly something has changed, but I'm not sure what.

Can anyone help on what might be causing this?

Dodgy fuel?

The fuel is shell v-power. So no, the fuel should be good.

There is no obvious damage to the dizzy or hall sender. Although I do have a donor unit I will try.

After setting the basic engine ignition timing to 6deg btdc (which is totally stable with the strobe), then re-connecting the blue coolant temp sensor there is no stable advance reading. This suggests to me that the signal from the ecu for firing point is all over the place or somehow the ignition map has changed to some random value. I'm quite puzzled by this. I know that the hall sender sends an engine speed signal to the ecu, so, would have thought that if the issue was related to that, this would be apparent at any setting. is that right?

Any help would be really appreciated.
