Higher MPG in warm weather? & Bonus wheel bearing question

Hi all,

 

Last weekend, during the warm weather (Corrado reading showed 21c) I was on the M25 and noticed that my MPG counter gave a steady (50+ miles) reading of around 35mpg...the highest my VR has seen! (35.4mpg max). I have a feeling that my MAF or blue sensor is a bit dodge because I normally get around 25-28mpg max on a motorway run (I know, I need to sort it out!), has anyone experienced the same or who can provide an explanation? Perhaps the sun was getting to my eyes? 8)

 

I doubt it makes any difference, but I filled up with Esso regular.

 

Bonus question to whoever is in the know - I need to replace my rear bearings. I have some gen 16v ones I never got round to fitting before, are these the same for a VR?

Could be a number of factors. Air gets less dense the warmer it gets, so less fuel is need to maintain the correct A/F ratio (given the same volume). So for a given volume of air taken into the engine, there should be less fuel (but also less power as a result). Also the engine may warm up slightly quicker in the warmer weather, changing from the cold-start map quicker. Oh and you probably aren't using the heaters, headlights a HRW in warmer weather

mines not a vr but a 9a 16v and last summer drove to telford from perth scotland at steady 70mph and returned 46mpg this was due to having wife as passanger who does not like to be any faster than the limit on the road..best id seen before that was 36mpg but still i didnt buy a rado to get good mpg figures ...im wanting a vr now that ive had the 9a for 2 years...
