BessyBeaut 0 Posted May 10, 2011 hey guys just wondering if anyone can help? i'v just got my rad back out from MOT and one of the things they picked up on was that my alternator isn't juicing up my lights enough! which would also explain what was going on with my stereo everytime i turned it up! SOooo... anyone know what is the biggest alternator type/model that would fit my 1990 1.8L 16v?? cheers Bessy
Wullie 1 Posted May 11, 2011 Not sure about alternative alternators but have you checked what the current one is putting out, it should be around 14 volts. If it's down then it's probqbly the brushes that are worn. A brush? regulator unit is about £10 from ECP, their part no 414 44 0050. Replaced mine last year and it's a ten minute job. mikkijayne 0 Posted May 12, 2011 90A is the biggest standard model that will fit a 16V. Got a spare kicking about for cheap if you need it :)
