frankjetta 0 Posted June 11, 2011 If the charger fails does it damage anything else or do you just need to rebuild the charger? Can the car the car still be driven with a failed charger? Still don't know what model to buy, any recommendations.
domwells27 0 Posted June 11, 2011 If the charger explodes then some of the metal shrapnel could get into the engine. It would have to go through all the pipes, intercooler etc first though. The damage to the charger would most likely be terminal so you wouldn't be able to get it rebuilt. You can run an engine with a charger with a little modification, but you need to physically remove the old broken charger to do it. Basically run a pipe from the airbox to the IC pipe work, blank off the bypass valve on the bottom of the throttle body and attach the oil feed line to the oil return line. Oh and you'll need a shorter serpentine belt.
