Expenditure...

Recommended Posts

After three years of VR6 ownership I though I'd add up the bills just to see how much the car had cost to keep running over that time. Breakdown was as follows:

Month 3:Top end rebuild and clutch - £1500

Month 3: Service - £120

Month 9: Service - £120

Month 11: MOT - £40

Month 13: New hose - £50

Month: 15: New tyres and tracking £340

Month 16: Ignition work - £40

Month 16: New cam chain guide - £40

Month 18: Service - £120

Month 23: MOT - £40

Month 23: New disks and pads £270

Month 24:Service - £120

Month 30: Service £130

Month 35: MOT - £45

Month 36: Service - £150

Car has covered 30,000 miles in this time. This comes to £3,125 in total which is on average £1042 per year! Obviously exludes Insurance, VAT, Tax, Petrol and any modifications.

Thats not bad in my opinion for keeping a 10 year old car on the road. What do everyone else's running cost come out at?

Sorry, bored at lunchtime.

I'll have to work mine out when I have time. I haven't had mine a year & I know that it's going to be over £1042

had mine 18 months... 7 of which it's been off the road...

You really don't want to know what I've spent on it upto now... :?

My 16V was great when I had that though... in the 2.5 years I had it, I spent a total of £1900 on servicing, tyres and exhaust parts and had done over 32K miles in it... 5.9p per mile isn't bad running costs I think... 8)

I was gonna say, £3k in 3 years is not so bad. I'm pushing £2k/yr in the 18 months I've had mine, and I've just decided it's time to bite the bullet and get the cam chains done. Kiss goodbye to another half-grand (at least).

BTW - how come your cam chain guide went 12 months after pulling the clutch and stuff off the car for the top end rebuild? Presumably your garage didn't have the presence of mind to combine the two jobs while it was all off originally? :(

28 months, 40k miles & £2,600 the lot :!

translating to

£1,100ish/ year or 6.5p/mile :D

Add car and petrol allowance, and i'm making money

Henny - think you've done the sum wrong  Yours is how many miles you travelled for a pound :D

I bought my G60 last April & spent a further 3.5k on it over the following 8 months !!

Car has done approx 8000miles since I bought it.

That figure does not include insurance, tax or fuel.
