neuon2003 0 Posted June 28, 2011 Another reference post, prompted by a swine of a job removing a brake bias valve, which ended up requiring a bar welding to each of the two CSK securing bolts to break the galvanic corrosion. Researching a solution, came across this jointing compound, used in the boating world, which prevents galvanic corrosion (e.g. brake bias valve, rear licence plate bulb cover). Available on Ebay and from ship's chandlers. Duralac DTD 369B jointing compound inhibits electrolytic corrosion Description Duralac DTD369B is a chromate containing jointing compound designed to inhibit electrolytic decomposition betweendissimilar metals – often called galvanic corrosion. It is a single pack, air setting product. Duralac conforms to specification DTD 369B, which superseded DTD 369A. Uses Duralac is indispensable for the sealing of joints between dissimilar metals including magnesium and its alloys. For example Duralac may be used: - Between aluminium alloy plates/extrusions and bolts or rivets used in building applications - In general engineering applications where dissimilar contact cannot be avoided - In vehicle building where aluminium alloy contacts steel - For marine application where corrosion is accelerated by brine concentration - In close proximity to the sea where salt will meet with structures and set up electrolytic cells - In Aerospace where rivets/bolts are secured into aluminium plates.
