it's 32mm I think, but I've always used an adjustable spanner as I can't justify a deep 32mm socket only for that.

Thanks David. It's just that it seems as though the hexagon is rather shallow and close to the face of the radiator.

 

(You are quite right of course about "Being a Boy Scout", about this and measuring it myself).

To put this to bed, it's 29mm. And not at all tightly done up (which should have been obvious to me if I had thought about it - screwed as it is into a very flimsy radiator shell). All is well again for the princely sum of £12.

It's an imperial size - think plumbing!

 

1" 1/8th IIRC

 

All the oil filter housing and sensor fittings on VW's are also imperial

hope you put some sealer on the thread , i didnt, mine is tight but is leakin coolant . Will be doing it next week .

Don't know, I used a borrowed 30mm socket which was fine for the minimal torque needed.

Believe its a 29mm size. Torque 35Nm.

 

If it doesn't come with a fibre washer fitted, then N 043 808 3 should do the trick.
