suspension woes

Recommended Posts

hey guys, after finally getting my engine issues sorted out (traced back to a fault MAP sensor in the ecu and intermittent fuel pump issue) ive now found the suspension to be nackered, TSR my resident vw specialists told me of the problem today, basically strut top mounts and the lower control arm rear bushes are shot, ive ordered new wishbones that have new ball joints and bushes all ready fitted (standard bushes) which i want to fit to get me through mot, however i have been reading that he bolts on the wishbone are prone to shearing,

basically i just wanted some advice on how to tackle the job myself relativley trouble free? and with a few specific questions ( i have not been able to have a good look at the suspension on the g60 yet)

does the subframe need supporting when removing the two bolts holding the the control arm on?

i believe there is one horizontal bolt on the front end of the suspension which goes into a captive nut on the subframe, is it this bolt that is prone to shearing or is it the vertical bolt that looks like it goes up into the floor pan? if so with these bolts what is the worst case secenario? ive read with the horizontal bolt its a drill to 10.5 and tap? what about the vertical mounting hole?

also i need to change the top strut mountings, is this a complete strut out job? if so does the hub have to be removed or is the strut seperate? finally will spring compressors be vital? i have ordered 2 of these strut top mounts

cheers guys, any help would be much appreciated....if its really a pig i will stick it into TSR, any ideas how long it should take a pro garage to carry out this work on both sides of the car?
