KipVR 1 Posted November 9, 2011 My central locking has always made a groaning noise since I bought it, is that normal ?!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 9, 2011 Yep. All my MK2s made the same noise too as it shares the same system. I get a 1-2 second groan followed a click of the boot lock. I assume the noise is the vacuum / pressure pump doing it's thing.
boost monkey 0 Posted November 9, 2011 Agree with FishHay. Both my C and mk2 sound like that.

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 9, 2011 It always seemed a bit over-engineered to me and must have been quite expensive to implement, compared to the cheap electric solenoids that all cars have these days.... but I guess VW had their reasons for it. Reliability being one of them I guess as I've never had a problem with it in the MK2s or the Corrado :D
Supercharged 2 Posted November 9, 2011 I still prefer it to the horrible sound of electric CL... Groan - well it does a bit but if it's really noisey I'd suspect it's struggling due to an air leak or kinked pipe
boost monkey 0 Posted November 9, 2011 yeah, ditto what Stevo said. The CL doesn't work on my golf tailgate and sometimes it takes the pump an extra second to lock all the doors.
