Correct topmount setup for early car with coilovers?

Got some complete arse budget coilovers for my '90 valver. The only plus point is they go -130. After a little bit of messing around ive got them on with the order going

 

spring > plate > that solid rubber top mount thing with the bearing inside it > car > top plate > nut.

 

Is this correct? :scratch: There seems to be a fair bit of play in the struts, and it's got the usual problem of the top mounts poking out about half an inch from under the bonnet. (worse on lock to lock)

 

I've heard about replacing top mounts for the later vr6 ones. Could someone help me out?:thumbleft:
