VR6 Aircon issue

wondering if anyone could shed some light onto this... not a problem, but something I wouldn't mind sorting.

 

I recently got my first VR6, and its had Air con at some point, the switches are still there and the compressor is still on, but one of the pipes off the compressor has been cut.

 

I don't have a clue about Aircon, but its had a front knock @ some point and my mechanic says its had a standard Rad put on and needs one with aircon but I can't find one anywhere

 

Is he right about the rad? and anyone any ideas on where I could source one, or does the MK3 Golf Rad work because I know they did come with Aircon standard?

You keep your rad, but need an aircon rad (condenser) to put on the front of it. MK3 condenser kind of fits but the pipes are in the wrong place.

 

http://www.autoairglos.net/ - these guys may be able to help you find the correct rad but you need to make sure you still have your brackets to attach it to the radiator.

 

Or alternatively, what I'm planning to do is just take it to an aircon specialist and ask them to install something that fits.

right then, does look like mine was damaged when it had a bump, I was debating taking it to an Aircon specialist as well to make sure there's nothing else missing as well and it is just the condenser I need. Cheers for all the info though guys

I am happy to have an initial look for you if you want. I have removed and installed a number of climate control systems on corrados in my time and am only in Wilmslow.

Let me know and I can give you some advice if you want. There are a number of ways of solving the issue...

If you could Jay that would be great, you're up towards Alderly Edge way aren't you? it would be great if I could have it working for next summer... not that we see much sun in Manchester anyways but it's nice to have aircon there if I need it, i'll see if I can lend a friends Tomtom this week and try and get up your way at some point

Jay - what are the options for condensers? I'm looking for something that fits with no cutting of the slam panel if possible, and without pushing the radiator back. The car hasn't got aircon at all (yet) so I'd need brackets too.
