bmcc 10 Posted January 28, 2012 Ok car had sat for 3 weeks and came home yesterday and it started no problems, then again this morning started no probs, but then when i was pulling away from traffic lights i shifted from 2nd to 5th and stalled the car, and it stalled with quite a jerk, went to start car and nothing!! Just clicking, so got a tow and bump started it, drove it for half hour and turned it off, same again it wouldnt start. Could this jerk have maybe thrown a wire out starter or something? bumps straight away, checked battery and it sat at 12v and when revved didnt fluctuate, is problem more the alternator than the starter? grayspeed 10 Posted January 28, 2012 Should be running at least 13 volts, sounds like an alternator problem.
bmcc 10 Posted January 28, 2012 seems weird how it has just all happened after a jerk in engine though??
bmcc 10 Posted January 29, 2012 bumped car again and drove it to kwik fit for battery test, and they reckon alternator is at fault but can this just happen after a stall?? i thought there would have been a run up of starting problems etc, is there any chance of loose wire or something coming loose somewhere? just seems to sudden a failure after like a knock/jerk
