Missing part

Recommended Posts

Hi All. I was having a little tinker around with the VR6 this morning and noticed a missing adjuster bolt on a part on the left of the engine (your left as you look at it from the front of the car), above the Aux belts.

I'm a newbie so was only just about to learn how to do my own oil change, so I have no idea what this part is.

Can anyone shed any light? It kind of looks important, lol.

Ash

If you're talking about the bolt hole that looks to be about central in the picture, then that's part of the auxiliary belt tensioner and there isn't meant to be a bolt in there. You're only supposed to put one in when you want to slack off the belt tensioner prior to removing the auxiliary belt :)

Its supposed to be like that fella, its for releasing the tension on the aux belt.

EDIT

We'll call that a draw Dave :-)

Rest easy fella there is nothing missing. The component in your pic is the auxiliary belt tensioner, and the thread will accept a bolt as and when you require to de-tension the system for belt removal.

Cheers. Just found that on the engine diagrams as well. Only thing is the part the bolt then pushes on has snapped off and I have a little piece of metal floating around in there. So this will be fun when it comes round to time to change the belt.
