VR6 ECU loom the same as GTI?

Hi All

 

I'm getting the bits and pieces together to convert my VR6 to OBD2. I have managed to pick up most of the parts I need from fleabay, but have just been informed by the seller he has already sold the ecu loom locally:censored:. He tells me he has another in a 96 GTI, but surely these would be totally different what with the ecu/engine loom being different? Can anyone tell me if this is the case?
