gripper924 0 Posted June 25, 2012 Hi, my '95 16v with 90k is suffering from sudden power loss, normally when accelerating. The car will lose all power for a second or two which feels quite violent when accelerating, and quite disconcerting. Once or twice it has stalled, but normally it just picks up again until the next time. My first thought is the fuel pump as the external one has been noisy for some time. I had it replaced about 6 years ago but the internal lift pump was not replaced yet that had failed and I think it put pressure on the main pump? Does the fuel pump sound a possible cause or are there any other possibilities? If it is a fuel pump what would the likely cost be? thanks all.
boost monkey 0 Posted June 26, 2012 high rpm or low rpm? does it hesitate when you pull off? more info needed :-) could be fuel pump or perhaps a vac leak somewhere (hesitating would suggest this)
gripper924 0 Posted June 26, 2012 thanks for reply. Medium revs, but uphill normally, or when accelerating and causing pressure. So it has happened at 2000 rpm and at 4000 rpm. There is no hesitation when I pull away. Would the fuel pump cause intermitant power loss? or would it just go completely? Is it likely to be the internal lift pump or the main pump? thanks.
