Pete 0 Posted September 22, 2012 Still trying to eradicate my intermittent starting problem, and chatting to a mates dad who's an RAC engineer I did a test of the ignition to find the car isn't producing a spark. With that in mind, the options seem to be either a crank position sensor, coil pack, ignition or immobiliser fault. I've removed, cleaned and reseated the crank sensor but before I start spending on parts how do I check the coil pack and ignition switch without killing myself??? My thinking was to unplug the pack and get a voltmeter over the terminals which would help tell of the pack is failing, but how can I test the pack is receiving power with the ignition on? Any advice on what to check, order to check in etc would be great.
tentonhammer 10 Posted September 26, 2012 This is how I normally do it see below: http://autorepair.about.com/od/troubleshooting/ss/coiltest-manual.htm or you can use a spark tester (the AA use them all the time). I wouldn't mind getting one of these myself! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-38898-In-Line-Ignition-Tester/dp/B0001K9U5U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1348654479&sr=8-
