errrrrr tyre size

hey all

Got some 15 inch estorils on my c and was going to order some tyres from performance alloys online.

What size tyes do i need because if i go through the "choose tyres by car" link on the site its different to what i thought was written on the tyres currently on my car.

I am a bit of an amateur at this so forgive me.

Incidently I am off for some bridgestones and I am going to get my alloys polished. I saw a slammed golf with polished estorils on and i thought they looked awesome.

Yup that Performance Alloy site has it wrong... they're saying 185/55/15 but the standard size should be 195/50/15...

195/50/15 is definately the right size.

 

And if you wanna get some ideas on what a Corrado lowered on polished Estorils looks like, look for info on Dave Bloomfields car on this forum. Its a black 16v which has had some tasteful bodywork done to it (removed side bump strips, rieger grille & eyebrow, etc) along with, of course, the polished estorils. Looks pukka :)

I appreciate that the sizes are more-or-less comparable (putting 195/50/15 on a car set for 185/55/15 means the speedo will over read by 1.5%), but since the original VAG brochure and owners manual both say 195/50/15, I can only assume it was an offical design decision by VW to change to a more easily availble size...?

 

Do you have a source for this info?

The Corrado was built, some of it by hand, in the Karmann Coachworks factory based in Osnabrück, Germany. The G60 stickered for just under $18,000 in 1990. The G60's last year was 1992, and it retailed for nearly $21,000 with the $725.00 sunroof option. The 1992 model did see a power increase of 11 more road HP (136 vs. 125) with the use of a larger crankshaft pulley. The odometer was digital also, a running change made in 1991. Tire size increased from 195/50R-15V to 205/50R-15V. Volkswagen never bothered to update their literature for the 1992 model year, as the phenomenal VR6 engine made its debut.
