mmacneill123 0 Posted November 8, 2012 Hi folks - major problem, seem to have a huge build up of pressure in the cooling system - water is bubbling out even though the engine temp is okay on the guage but is a bit higher at times than it used to be. However, it does sometimes rocket up especially first thing in the day within about 1/2hr, pushes the water out, i top it up...it seems to behave for most of the day, until the next day. Thermostat was replaced last year so unlikely to be getting stuck, but it seems to have been running hot for a while - explains the high oil usage over the last couple of months and baked plugs :-( Is this head gasket trouble - no semolina in the oil...? Its a 2L/9A.. Cheers
mmacneill123 0 Posted November 22, 2012 For anyone's info, it was the head gasket...seems you do not necessarily get plumes of white smoke or emulsion in the oil, and the reason it lost so much when cold was once the engine warms it clamps together more tightly. High temp was the exhaust gases super-heating the water... :-)
