coleman09 10 Posted June 30, 2013 seems my piston rings have gone on a very tight month, i would do it myself although im not all that confident. I could get the rings etc and wouldnt mind lending a hand doing it to help if ever happens again in the future. Could anybody help out? i could get the bus recovered to wherever in the north west cheers. This little mishap may result in me having to sell my yellow corrado :(
lard44 0 Posted June 30, 2013 You got a copy of this? http://www.amazon.com/How-Keep-Your-Volkswagen-Alive/dp/1562614800 If not, get one - it's a bible for us aircooled enthusiasts. One the one hand, rebuilding an aircooled engine is so straightforward compared to anything modern, and pulling an engine out of a bay is a piece of pi55... On the other, rings would generally only be a temporary fix - you should really look at doing the cylinders and pistons at the same time - but if it's a standard 1600cc lump the parts should only set you back about £200... I'd love to help, but I'm south east - probably couldn't be further away...
coleman09 10 Posted June 30, 2013 i had a look at this earlier, my main issue is tools, some upstanding member of society found that my taxes in the form of his job seekers allowance wasnt enough and broke into my old mans garage whilse i was away and helped himself to around 5 grands worth of snap on kit. I maay just do that pal it been rebuilt at some point or other as the block is green which ii am lead to believe is a big boys toys block. Have to find some one able to bore out cylinders near me if im going to do her proper, thanks for the advise mate
