Best radiator replacement for VR6?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of replacing my ropey old radiator before I put it back in. Already got the cowling off for powder coating.

Is there a standard source for a replacement radiator that people use, or are there many varying opinions on the best replacement?

The previous owner on mine, fitted a Hella one !

Not sure if it's OE? And at the cost of £160 I'd hope it was near as damn it ! ;)

Genuine ones were, I believe, in the region of 250 quid!

Make sure you clean any rust off the radiator mounting brackets before fitting the new one. If you don't, the idiot fitters may well pound the old mounts into the slot on the new rad, permanently stretching the slots such that a regular bracket will no longer fit. Ask me how I know :bad-words:

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll be going for a Hella which I'll be fitting myself. There's plenty of rust on the brackets. Are they still available from VW? Be nice to get everything going back together clean and shiny!

Daves16v does some nice shiny replacements if they're beyond salvaging. Have a look in the suppliers forum.
