Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 28, 2004 I'm changing the pads on my mate's Cupra R tomorrow. Is there anything different about doing this on Brembos over standard brakes? I'm sure there isn't but thought I'd check as I know some of you have this setup on your cars. Cheers K
Henny 0 Posted May 28, 2004 I'd guess that if anything it's easier 'cos the caliper is just held on with a pair of bolts into the mount rather than into the sliders, so you'll only need a single spanner to get the caliper off... 8) I didn't have a look when I fitted mine as to how you get the pads out of the caliper, but I can't imagine that it would be that difficult... :? Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 29, 2004 He he, took me an hour! I have *got* to get some Brembos....mmmmm. They are sublime. They come apart like Lego. Well easy to do. Seat wanted £150 for the pads and £30 labour. Feck that. He got some Mintex pads from Euro Carparts for £30 and an hour's free labour  The nutter had killed his pads inside 19k! I take it on the Corrado conversion you just cut the brake wear sensor wire off yeah? Cheers K
Henny 0 Posted May 29, 2004 what sensor wire?!? Mine didn't have 'em when I got 'em so I'm guessing that there are 2 different specs, one with sensor and one without... 8)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 29, 2004 Cupra Rs have a wear sensor on the inside pad on the passenger side  I offered up one of his 18s to the side of my car today, they are bloody massive!!! No way they'd go on without arch mods! They suit a Corrado actually 8)
Henny 0 Posted May 29, 2004 I take it that's a LEON Cupra R then, not an Ibiza? That's where the difference in pads would come from then... ;)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 29, 2004 Aye, it's a bright yellow Cupra R Leon!
NormanCoal 0 Posted May 29, 2004 If they are the same caliper design as the Ibiza's, then the caliper doesnt have to come off the hub to change the pad right??
Henny 0 Posted May 30, 2004 As far as I know, yes it does... you undo the 2 bolts which hold the caliper onto the carrier and then pull the pads outta the caliper... I dunno how you'd do it without removing the caliper 'cos the hub would get in the way... but I'm happy to be enlightened... 8) :D
