Heater Matrix Replaced

Recommended Posts

Hi

Had the heater matrix replaced today the chap who replaced it used a Valeo. Just have another issue found another leak and this seem to be coming from the thermostat housing and I have not driven it. Guys I will be replacing the thermostat housing but at the same time should I put in a new thermostat and the temperature sender?

Also forgot to mention the metal pipe that goes into the top of the radiator has a small pin size hole can this be repaired using a metal hardener paste? Having spoken to the mechanic who replaced the heater matrix today he said due to the thermostat leak this must have created an air lock in the system and cause the heater matrix to blow.

Well it was a 20 year old part no bad really.

Is your car a VR6? If the pinhole leak is what I think it is, then it's extremely common that particular part and it's plastic, not metal. You can order a replacement for it from VW Classic Parts or VW Heritage. A picture paints a thousand words though, if you could show us which bit is leaking so we can advise properly! :)

If you're having the thermostat housing off, I'd definitely replace the thermostat at the same time - makes sense whilst you're in there!
