Which sensor is this? (VR)

Recommended Posts

The sensor on the front of the engine block by the filter housing and oil cooler seems to be weeping oil. I've nipped the securing bolt up although it wasn't really loose which may have stopped it. However, I wanted to check parts base to see if there's an O-ring or similar to seal it but can't find it on there.

Here's a pic of it;

Also, looks like there's leaks from the cooler. Does this remove with the filter housing and can you get a refurb kit or similar for it?

Crank sensor I think. Both mine leaked and they seem to chuck out loads of oil.

They have a plastic sleeve on them which looks like a seal. But when I ordered it. It came as a rubber o ring. Quite a thin one.

I've used a bit of sealant on the flat face of it as well. Fed up with leaks so used sealant on quite a lot of my new engine build.

Yeah crank seal. Just be careful if you remove it as the plastic is very brittle and they are known to brake at the bend. If it comes off in one piece the O seal should sort it. Oil cooler is separate from the filter housing. There are 2 seals for this, an inner and an outer where the securing plate goes on. Cheap enough and sold in quite a few different places. The filter housing seal I've only found available from VW or TPS though. Again, not silly expensive iirc.
