No spark from coil after I put stereo in

Recommended Posts

I've just put a stereo in my c, problem is its an old one and I had no wiring diagrams so after a few sparks and a couple of fuses later the stereo is working fine, but the car wont start. It turns over fine but theres no spark coming from the coil, any ideas what I could have blown?

Dont know if its relevent but when I was wiring up the stereo I couldnt find a live wire conected to the ignition, only a constant live which was a red and white wire, but I know there was an ignition controlled live as I used it with my last stereo (had to sell that 1 to help fund a new engine).

Please help, I havnt a clue about car electrics

Chris

exact same thing happened to me too, strange how it happened same time as fitting the radio too!!

be sure to buy a genuine switch as these are troublesome on corrados!!

The thick black wire is the switched igntion output.

I don't think you can mechanically break the ignition switch fitting a stereo! It's either a coincidence or you've blow a fuse somewhere else.

I dont think it was black. Can't remember tbh - may have been brown. I shorted mine by leaving the stereo on whilst negotiating it back into the hole... lol! Silly fooo, I know.

Do check all the fuses, if it works on permanent live but not on switched, you have found the prob

where exactly is the switch and is there any way of testing it?

The thick black wire is the switched igntion output.

yeah - I swear it is the ignition switch. It may be brown with a red strip and is not that thick (if it is the switched)

Switch is in the steering column (under the cowling).

There are detailed notes on changing them on this forum.
