PhatVR6 0 Posted June 29, 2004 Note: Do not rotate your charger with the g-lader timing belt removed as un-repairable damage can occur. The easiest way to remove the main charger drive pulley is with an air powered impact gun. Be very careful when reinstalling the pulley bolt with an impact gun as to not strip or shear the bolt off. Once you have the bolt off then you will need a gear or wheel puller to remove the main drive pulley. You can then remove the little upper black cog belt shield. This shield has one bolt and a nub molded into it and comes straight out. You can mark your old belt and cogwheels with a grease marker to ease orientation for the new belt. The two small cogwheels do have a little factory mark or notch for orientation on the outer edges, this can be hard to see with the charger still in the car. Another key feature for orientation are the two shafts keyways. The keys correspond with the factory notch marks on the cogwheels. These two marks need to both be facing in the same direction or both at 12:00 o'clock, parallel to the belt. The fun part is getting that little belt off and back on. I sometimes can slide the main shaft cogwheel to help with the removal and installation of the belt. The belt will simply come off the small second shaft cogwheel while rotating and pulling on the belt. You can transfer the grease marks to the new belt for the orientation on the new belt at installation or just be sure that the notches are in the right place. Be sure to double-check your timing and marks for correct alignment. Installing the belt on the charger is really just a snap. Well I hope you have been successful with this installation.
