.A.N.T. 0 Posted April 29, 2003 Other than a new engine... I have this... It's done 150k and is now smoking really badly, to the point where the rest of the car is sorted, but this is acutely embarrassing. It's starting to drink water as well. The little warning light keeps coming on and the level keeps dropping. I've sourced a new engine for it (recon 1.8 out of a Golf GTi) but what else should I change with the engine out? I've swopped an 8v Golf engine before, but not a 16v. I'd guess the principles are the same?? Gunna change the clutch as I don't think this has ever been done, will anything else benifit with changing?? Might well be doing it this weekend, as I'm not sitting in a convoy of heavily done up dubs next weekend clouding them all in smoke...! What I'm replacing; Engine.
