Bfstrachan 10 Posted January 21, 2016 Just about to replace my alternator and noticed the pulley on my new one is slightly smaller than my old one. I am thinking I can simply adjust and take up the bit of extra slack? Am I right in thinking this or should I not even try? The alternator bodies and fixings are identical, just the pulley is a little smaller. Thanks in advance!
VAG-hag 0 Posted January 21, 2016 Does it have same number of grooves?
Bfstrachan 10 Posted January 21, 2016 The pulley? It is a v-belt, so one groove I'm guessing...
VAG-hag 0 Posted January 21, 2016 Yeah the pulley. My vr has ~
Bfstrachan 10 Posted January 21, 2016 ended up transplanting the old pulley onto the new alternator. I noticed the new one was about 5mm longer in the shaft so would not have lined up straight. Was a little tricky to get the pulley off, same as suspension top mounts with alen key through the socket.

VAG-hag 0 Posted January 21, 2016 Maybe why it's diff then. Sounds like best idea to swap as you have :)
