Air intake path as std?

where the hell does the air come from with the std setup on a VR6?

 

Looking about there seems to be no air flow arouind the inlet to the std filter box

There's nothing wrong with that method of air collection. The little plastic flap attached the slam panel isolates the back of the headlight and traps cold air in there. The airbox then sucks it in. It's a sound and neat method. The only restrictive part is the airbox mouth size, but then the VR being NA merely sucks in what it *needs* anyway.

 

I suppose you could block off the front mouth and then make a bigger one with some guttering pipe which drops down into the Carbon canister hole.

where does the air enter the car from tho? across the front of the engine?

 

maybe this isnt so bad as the exhaust manifold is at the back?

Pablo, it's 'drawn' in from around the headlight gaps. As I say, the plastic flap isolates the air drawn in from the engine heat.

 

At motorway speeds there is sufficient air speed to blast cold air into the airbox too but ram air effects are minimal anyway.
