1.8t Timing Belt Question

Recommended Posts

Guest sam1990rhodes

Guys,

When replacing the timing belt & water pump do you need to replace the tensioner and pulley too? i ask as the ones on my block look in quite good condition, seems a waste to buy new ones if they are unlikely to go.

It is advised to change it by manufacturer but if it looks and feels ok then why bother. I've done a few and not felt the need to change some of them without any problems. The more important issue many overlook when doing timing belts on 1.8t engines in not replacing the 3 engine mount bolts.
