Miikeyboy 10 Posted November 20, 2016 Can anyone help with identifying which steering rack I need for my 95 VR. I have the smooth type one that I have taken off (TRW I believe) but Is this the wrong one that has been fitted in the past as am I right in thinking VRs should have a ZF one? Or were they fitted with both?.. I have found a replacement one off a 16v that the rack itself looks the same as the one I took off so was hoping this is the case Many thanks
VEEDUBBED 0 Posted November 21, 2016 I've only ever seen ZF racks fitted, the 16v's version will fit but the high press. pipes have different fittings and the Vr rack also has longer inner steering arms too, meaning you'd have to swqap over thoses aswell.. Vr6 also has a different, higher pressure pump compared to the other models fitted with TRW hardware.
Roger Blassberg 0 Posted November 21, 2016 My 94 VR6 has a TRW rack. I believe, maybe wrongly, that this the usual fitting for a UK right hand drive cars. Best wishes RB
Miikeyboy 10 Posted November 21, 2016 I found on the parts page they use the same as the golf mk3 gti/vr6 which also appears to be TRW so on the look out for one of these as appear to be a lot cheaper.
Roger Blassberg 0 Posted November 21, 2016 Certainly the track rods are readily available for TRW rack at a reasonable price (about £45 3 months ago). RB
