tomi 10 Posted August 15, 2018 As in title? Have a VR6 ENGINE ALREADY STRIPPED, but the head is still on, and I dont want to remove it, It is going to be soda blasted this week, and I would like to have all painted, block in black, and cylinder head in silver, same as gearbox which is already stripped too, and itis going to be soda blasted also. I just wonder, how to paint it , and what sort of paint should I use ? There is a spray coled VHT , and some people recomend it, but I would like You to let me an idea how You do it and what paint You use, :thumbleft:
Bauhaus 3 Posted August 16, 2018 I painted my block with VHT spray paint and I find it very good (surface preparation is the key) I'm not sure how necessary it is but I also used their primer too, just follow their instructions for application, after I let mine cure for a few days I then went over it with a heat gun. I have never painted my head or gearbox but painted my cam cover and manifold with the same stuff but used u-pol acid etch primer and that came out all good. Simeon 0 Posted August 16, 2018 (edited) Yeah, done a couple of mine with engine enamel and lasts quite well. If you're intending to drive the car a lot then my advice would be to not get too bogged down trying to paint everything etc etc, ultimately the engine/engine bay is exposed to very high temperatures, water, salt, general crap off the road and eventually any paint used will start to peel/flake. Much better to just make sure everything is very clean so you can see any leaks etc Edited August 16, 2018 by Simeon
