Starting issue

After 2 years sat in my workshop and various repairs I finally got my 2.0 16v out washed and managed to start it ready for a MOT. I had No issues at all.

 

So I tried to start it yesterday so I could take it for an MOT and this time it wouldn't start.

 

When I turn the key all I hear is one click. Tried jump starting of a van and still Just the one click.

 

Any help would be much appreciated, I'm far from an expert on cars, especially electrical problems so please bare with me

I'm thinking it's a problem with the starter solenoid or the wiring to it.

I reckon it'll be your earths or your starter motor as it has been sat

 

Disconnect the battery and then remove and clean all your connections to starter / alternator and most importantly the earth to the gearbox / battery tray.

 

If still no joy, a couple of taps on the starter motor perhaps to see if it goes, then you're in new / refurbished starter motor territory.

 

I presume it bump started ok?

Not tried bump starting as where it is isn't ideal. But it ran perfectly fine the previous day.
