pablo_vr6 0 Posted September 8, 2004 not a raddo I know but I plugged my vagcom into my bosses A4 1.8T yesterday to see if there were any fault codes as it isnt running great. all went ok - vagcom told me the hall sensor and the lambda were buggered. so we are driving along and Im looking at the screens and we smell a slight burning smell so disconnect the vagcom and carry on. he pulls over to drop something off and when he tries to start the car again nothing happens. the lights all come on the dash as normal and the status says OK but when he tries to fire NOTHING happens. so we plug vagcom in again and now it says battery voltage is low. however the indash voltmeter says 12v ok. any suggestions? disconnected the batt for a few mins but no joy there. cheers -pablo
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 8, 2004 Have a look on Ross tech's site as there is info on there about the 'K line' on some OBD2 cars. You might have fried it :?
pablo_vr6 0 Posted September 8, 2004 its a 97 or 98 car - would it be ODB2? mega bad sh!t like :(
dr_mat 0 Posted September 8, 2004 You have to be careful with cheap VAG-COM cables. The pro stuff has "k line protection" built-in. Sorry to say that won't be cheap to fix, if that's the problem. Probably require an ECU refurb, as a minimum.. :(
pablo_vr6 0 Posted September 8, 2004 can he get an ecu from a scrappy and get it recoded? we think something definately burnt out :? any idea if anything bar the ecu will be toast? wiring etc in the car.
dr_mat 0 Posted September 8, 2004 Dunno mate, don't know that much about it. You can get your original ECU refurbed. Probably cheaper and more reliable than getting a 2nd hand one recoded.
pablo_vr6 0 Posted September 8, 2004 yeah its just Id hate to get the ecu sorted and it blow again!! :(
pablo_vr6 0 Posted September 13, 2004 FIXED - was an ignition fault of all things!!!!! just pure fluke it happened when we were out. the ignition got stuck and burnt out the starter.
MikeVR6 0 Posted September 13, 2004 Nice one. Similar fault happens on Pug 307s. The starter motor keeps going until the engine bay bursts into flames! Glad you got it sorted.
