dav 0 Posted September 17, 2004 Hello chaps, i need some help… I need to know how to change the rear two engine mounts and what torque settings to use. I have used the search functions and can not find what I need, I will not be getting the VT (vibra-tech) one yet…just OE at the moment. I did find that I may be able to use a golf diesel gear box mount the solid one, is this true. Please help me, the wife is driving the car and I fear for the engine as there is still a bit of movement, I have already changed the front mount. Lets just say that her gear changes are not subtle…. Thanks D.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 17, 2004 Yeah solid MK2 mount for the gearbox - a diesel one, and normal OE for the back then...... although you're wasting your time replacing an OE rear for another OE rear.... they never break. If you're going to the trouble of jacking the engine up etc, at least fit a VT!! K
dav 0 Posted September 17, 2004 cool thanks Kev, does the gearbox mount add a lot to engine movement?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 17, 2004 A little bit yeah..... I noticed a better shift quality using a solid mount. The rear engine mount does squish and sag but they don't actually ever break completely, so it's up to you if you want to change that one...
