Woooooohoooooooooooooooooo!!!! Changed the fuse and now the spoiler works and car starts - who would have known that the immobiliser would be effected by the spoiler fuse?! Although it has been mentioned on here a couple of time as possible. Have now put dash back together but am left with one minor problem - cannot get the ECU back where it belongs no matter which way I turn it lol. Gonna call the garage man who said I needed a new ECU with immobiliser delete and ask him to come out and put it back - lost enough skin off knuckles for one day - time for a drink methinks Thanks everyone for the help and advice

Thanks Jim... Man in Halfords said No they would not fit. But im thinking he don't know what he is talking about and the size looked right too. Bought some any way will soon know lol

The blade fuses in my car look different to the standard blade fuses you can get from halfordS are they the same.... Will they fit?
-
Without going back out to the garage... Pretty sure it was 16

Ok - being busy at work has meant that I could not get out and work on the car but this weekend I have time at last so started looking at this. Someone mentioned on here a while ago that it appears that any part you want to get to the car has been built around and this is no exception!! took the trim round the dash off and the cover from the fuse box - - that was easy - the trim around the fuse box area - not so easy - have removed a few screws and have managed to pull some of the trim down a bit but can I get to the immobiliser box and the spoiler box - not a chance - have managed to get my fingers to them.... just - so have wiggled the connections and sprayed some electrical cleaner - randomly up around them. Also found one of the fuses has indeed blown - 15 amp one - not sure of number but about 3/4 of the way across from the left. Don't have any fuses - so will pop out and get one tomorrow morning and see 1. Does spoiler now work and 2, any difference on the immobiliser. Im thinking 1 will hopefully be fixed by he fuse and 2 may be fixed by wiggling of connections but don't hold out much hope. - then will be the challenge fo putting back together. - this working on your car lark is not easy when you don't have a clue!!!

Ah - may push the boat out and have both ends out - cheers

Fuse box sounds better than messing with Speedo panel.... I hope - thanks
-
Is there a panel that just comes off (easily.... or not) - or if not how do I get to this?
-
What parts of the dash will h need to remove to get to these and is it easy
-
Bump - any more advice on this before I go out into my cold garage and fiddle - do people think the two things are related and is it fuse 16 im looking at? Thanks
-
Is that so - that's interesting wonder if this is the case - is that fuse 16? will have a look one evening this week. If its that easy - I should be so lucky!

Saga - continues...... Right just picked up my car from garage borrowed their ECU. On way home noticed the spoiler is not raising - does the ECU control this or could this be an associated problem? The ECU I borrowed looks like its from a Corrado as it end in 258 - the end letters are CH - what does CH stand (mine is indeed CP) for? - but mainly could spoiler and starting issue be related - does this point more towards a wiring issue? I suppose he could have dislodged something from the spoiler control module when feeling around for wring to the immobiliser box? mentioned in a previous post Thanks again

Think I'm gonna take your advice and send my ECU. To be honest it would be good to keep the original one. Is there any way he or someone can check the ECU to see if it is that? Think i may see if I can borrow the other ECU from the garage so I can at least get my car back home.... Then maybe i can have a look. Not that skilled but worth a try i suppose following the great advice you guys have given
-
They must work or at least to some degree. My garage have taken one off a MK2 converted VR and the guy who owns it bought it from EBay was down as a MK3 part number is almost the same but ends in a 6 not 8
-
Glad yours is all sorted mate. Will double check how many wise my MAF is tomorrow. Cheers
-
Lol yes mate. Going through a phase of waking at 4am.... Oh well some catch up on some old wheeler Dealer shows .... Thanks mate

As my car is out with my mechanic and currently locked in his workshop - can anyone confirm the part number of the correct ECU for 1995 VR6 - then at least I can start looking for an alternative - don't want to order the wrong one lol - will hold out for confirmation from Jekel though if any of his spare ECUs will work for me. Sentimentally wonder if I should get my ECU defeated and hope for the best - not sure i should be messing with brain transplants lol! Saying that just need to get her back on the road - need to drive once this bloody rain stops! The one my mechanic suggested from ebay has part number ending 256 not 258 (its the one he has been using of another car he is working on which is a Mk2 golf with a VR6 engine in it - it seems to work but revs high - whats the difference - guess revving high his just cause its off another car and it would learn? Is it this one? - 021 906 258 CP is 2.9 4 wire coil pack And in adverts what does "socketed" mean

Hi Jekel Thanks for info. So its not the remapped one im after just the standard - I have a 1995 VR6 so guess its the CP one Im after with immobaliser defeat. Let me know after you've dealt with your car if you do have the right one spare - if not guess I either need to get looking for another one (may try some of the Facebook forums) or get my ECU sent off to be immobiliser defeated. Juts risky if I have to pay for defeat to be done and find there is any other ECU issue? Will await your reply after you've seen Chris - thanks again for all your help Out of interest what year is your VR? Chuggs (David)

Tis confirmed as the ecu as tried all the other suggestions - thanks everyone So Jekel - thanks and hopefully hear from you over the weekend - good luck with your car!
-
Hi Jekel.... Are you saying after the weekend the one you might have spare would be a superchip one that is set up for Decat? As I don't have Decat or induction.... From what I'm hearing it would not work for me... But thanks so much..... But if you do end up with a spare normal one do please let me know. And thanks everyone for the various bits of advice will get them all checked out today

How do you get to it Sean?
